MySQL Workbench Alternative - Easy to use MySQL Client

If MySQL Workbench feels clunky, intimidating, or freezes on you, try Beekeeper Studio. A modern MySQL GUI that just works.

Used to use MySQL Workbench but it was so clunky and intimidating. Switched to Beekeeper and never went back. Databases are not my strong suit but Beekeeper helps eliminate friction, is easy to use, and makes me feel capable to do what I need to do. - Ariana Rice, Student

Beekeeper Studio is a fast, modern MySQL GUI that you can open and use without a tutorial. If MySQL Workbench has worn you out (the dated UI, the freezes on bigger result sets, the SSL connection dance), Beekeeper is going to feel like a relief.

Like MySQL Workbench, Beekeeper has solid MySQL support. Unlike Workbench, it also speaks PostgreSQL, SQLite, SQL Server, and a dozen other databases, so it’s one tool instead of one per engine.

Beekeeper Studio vs MySQL Workbench

MySQL Workbench is Oracle’s official MySQL client, with a focus on database modeling, server administration, and migration. It’s powerful, but it shows its age: the interface is dense, common tasks take more clicks than they should, and the app gets unhappy with larger tables.

Beekeeper Studio takes a different approach. The UI is built for daily query work: write SQL, browse tables, edit a row, save a query, color-code prod red and dev yellow so you don’t run something against the wrong server. Nothing flashy; everything where you’d expect it.

Use MySQL Workbench if you specifically need its visual data-modeling, server-admin, or migration-wizard features.

Use Beekeeper Studio if you mostly write queries and edit data, and you want a fast, no-fuss GUI that runs the same on Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Saw the landing page, tried it out for 10 mins and I knew, MySQL Workbench was nothing compared to this piece of art. - Abdul Jaseem, Tech lead @ Tradebrains

Why I built Beekeeper Studio

I built Beekeeper Studio because I got fed up with overly complex database apps that I had to re-learn every time I used them. I wanted something fast and light that felt like VSCode or Sublime Text, but for SQL.

Spoiler: I couldn't find a good app that fit my criteria, so I built one. That's why Beekeeper Studio exists today.

🕶 Intuitive and easy to use

Beekeeper Studio has a fast, modern UI that feels like it was built this century. Open it, connect, and start running queries. No tutorial required.

Beekeeper Studio fits right in. I didn’t have to take hours to figure out how to properly use it, and it was a seamless addition to my toolkit. - CS (research)

🔌 Easily manage multiple connections

Beekeeper Studio supports a wide range of databases, such as SQLite, Postgres, and even Oracle. Easily identify different environments by color coding each connection, and the whole app will change to match when you connect.

Nice support for multiple environments (I label prod red, dev yellow, localhost green). - Chander, Motion

🐧 Cross-platform (for real)

Beekeeper Studio works the same on MacOS, Windows, and Linux. Like you, we tinker with all types of computers, so we want our software to be top-notch, even especially on Linux.

I work on a combination of Mac and Linux and the ability to have feature parity and the same application on both platforms is outstanding. - Brian Loomis, Principal Engineer, Nikola Motor

💄 Not just a pretty face

Ctrl/Cmd+P - quicksearch your database and saved queries

The minimal, modern aesthetic isn't the whole story. Beekeeper covers the day-to-day database work most developers actually do.

Whether you're looking to quickly and easily edit data, write SQL like a pro, create & modify tables, or even share queries with coworkers, Beekeeper Studio has you covered.

Beekeeper Studio’s attention to design (both visual and functionalities) helps ease the work. - Long
