Beekeeper Studio v6.2 - Plugins, more themes, & Windows ARM support

Our plugin system is finally here. You can now install plugins from Beekeeper Studio’s built-in plugin store, or develop your own in literal minutes.

Plugins are available starting today. Community edition users can install up to 2 community plugins, paid editions can install as many as they like.

Plugins add new screens to Beekeeper Studio, and we’re launching with a few home grown plugins already available in the store

Map Visualization - plot your data on a map as points, heatmap, trail and more. Developed by me.
Explain Visualizer - Debug why your query is slow, expensive, or both. Developed by me.
Pivot Tables - Take a result set and make an Excel-style pivot table to quickly summarize your findings. Developed by me.
Gatekeeper a community developed plugin that adds an MCP server to Beekeeper Studio, so you can query your connections from Claude and Codex without sharing credentials. Developed by Gldwyn
DB Manager Pro, another community plugin that adds powertools for snapshotting, live stream data clones, schema diffs, migrations, and more. Developed by JonathanHerSa

Plugin security features

You can turn off plugins entirely using our configuration system.
New plugins are provisioned with read only access by default, so they can’t make changes to your database unless you enable read/write mode.
Businesses can use their own custom plugin registry to make sure that employees only install pre-vetted plugins, and to develop their own internal plugins.
Plugins load inside a secure iFrame and don’t have access to the rest of the app beyond the functions provided by the SDK.

What is a plugin?

A plugin is simply a HTML file that gets opened in an iFrame inside of a Beekeeper Studio tab.

By using the Plugin SDK plugins gets access to specific Beekeeper Studio functionality like running queries or describing table schemas. We even have a small Vite plugin to help you build plugins using React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, and more.

Plugin development

Plugin development is very straightforward.

Make a HTML file
Make a manifest.json file
That’s it

If you want to share your plugin with the world, you can publish it to the community plugin registry.

New Themes

But wait, there’s more! In preparation for community developed themes, we’ve rebuilt our theme system and are testing it with 2 new themes - Dracula and GitHub

These themes are built in to the app. Community themes are coming soon :-).

Windows on ARM

Beekeeper Studio now builds a Windows-on-ARM build, so if you’re using a Snapdragon X laptop you’ll find this version to be much more snappy and responsive.

Corporate fleet MSI builds

If you’re deploying Beekeeper Studio to a fleet of corporate machines, you can now use our MSI package. Auto-updating is disabled for the MSI package, so you can properly manage software deploytment yourself.

Loads of small fixes and enhancements

VIM mode relative line numbers, SQL Server corporate connection bug fixes, Redis 5 support, edge case ghost connection bug fixes, drag and drop improvements, dozens of security fixes, man there’s just too much to list everything.

Big props to community contributors

As usual a lot of stuff comes from the community. While folks are using AI to help them write PRs, its clear our community is acting responsibly and taking ownership of their work - adding tests, screenshots, and manually triaging feedback. Thanks everyone for being so cool.
