Beekeeper Studio, main editor
A clean and sensible UX is our real number one feature

It’s one of the most friendly and efficient DB GUI software I ever used, specially on Linux. Still very usable in the free version, but worth every cent to buy the premium license.

Renan L Vendramini Senior Software Engineer, Alboom

Not to brag, but our paid features are super cool

We've spent a lot of time making sure that if you upgrade, you are more productive and feel like you've gotten a great deal.

Pricing Start a 14 day free trial in the app, no separate download, credit card, or account required.

The new JSON view for a row of data is a simple but very, very useful feature. Well worth picking up a license for it. One of the more stable products I’ve used as of late.

Everyone deserves good software

The Community Edition is not an afterthought or a marketing stunt. We're building the software business we always wished existed. To us that means:

  • Open Source. All our code is either fully open source (community features), or source available (paid features).
  • Generous community version. Great for getting real work done.
  • Fair, transparent pricing. Paid features include lifetime access, clear subscription terms and no dark patterns.
  • No tracking or spyware. We don't know when you install the app, begin a trial, or interact with the app in any way.
  • Funded by customer purchases. No investors, corporate overlords, or trust funds to derail the business.

Community Edition FAQ

Is the Community Edition free for everyone?

Yes. Although our Community Edition is intended for students, individuals, non-profits and small businesses with fewer than 10 employees and/or annual revenue below $1m. If your organization is larger, we ask that you purchase a paid license.

I thought Beekeeper Studio was open source - how are you charging for it?

Yes. Beekeeper Studio is open source. View the source on GitHub.

We charge money for some features and databases because making good software is expensive and we’re in it for the long haul.

Why not just make the whole thing free & open?

We would love to….but open source projects without a clear sustainability plan are quickly abandoned, regardless of the good intentions of the maintainers.

We think a fully open core with paid extras is the best model for long term sustainability. So far it’s working - we’re stable and profitable with a full time team. We make a lot of features open & free, probably more than we should financially (shh, don’t tell our accountant).

Are there separate downloads for the community and paid editions?

No. There’s one app download, available here. Paid features can be enabled within the app with a free trial or paid license. Your data is safe when switching between different editions.

How is Beekeeper Studio Funded?

By you, our customers. We don’t have investors, corporate overlords or rich parents. Beekeeper started in 2019 and was funded by sweat equity for several years until we launched our paid plans in 2022. We’re now a stable and profitable company, thanks to you.

Is Beekeeper AI slop coded?

No. We use AI coding tools responsibly, making sure there’s always a real software engineer who owns the code end-to-end. We have no AI mandates or other nonsense.

Does it work the same on all operating systems?

Yes. Our app has full feature parity across MacOS, Windows, and Linux. No OS is an afterthought.

When was Beekeeper Studio started?

2019 was the first commit into the Beekeeper Studio repo, we soft launched a year later in 2020, and it’s been non-stop growth since then. I guess other developers wanted an easy-to-use database manager too :-).

Guys, WOW,

I have been using the AI to interact with my database today and I am thoroughly impressed.

I am genuinely curious about how you managed to make it generate queries so quickly and accurately.

Ive been asking some pretty complex questions but still, all my inquiries got a response. Freaking dope

We’ve used a ton of database IDE’s over the years. To have this consistent, clean and elegant interface in any operating system saves time and money throughout the development process. Highly recommend you give a try.

Sasha

I use this BD client every day, and it’s been a great experience. The user interface is sleek and easy to navigate, and the performance is top-notch—everything runs smoothly without any hitches. The best part, however, is the excellent support team that’s always quick to resolve any issues. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a reliable and efficient BD client!

I was looking for easy interface alternative for TablePlus and I ended up in finding BeeKeeper. Its awesome lightweight and full of features. Loved it!!

Tim I CTO

I just love this tool and instantly brought the pro version after trying it. Fast, multi platform as I use Mac and Linux. Supports various different dbs. And is open source and more importantly cares about what its users want and not some management

Tagser Programmer in training(No title or employment)

I never truly understood how model design works until I started using this to query and view database! I am grateful for this in my journey. I recommend it for someone learning Django + sqlite since that is only what I have used it for so far.

Matt K

Beekeeper Studio is BY FAR the most user-friendly DB GUI out there! I started using it a year ago and now our whole team bought a license. The multi-DB support is simply awesome as I use 4 different types of databases on a regular basis. Plus it works on Windows and Mac.

Mario

I’ve used many different DB clients over the past 10 years but they were all lacking in some regard so I gave a Beekeeper a try and I immediately knew that this is the one. Beekeeper is so much better than any other client that its not even close. Clean and modern UI, fast, intuitive. It has made my development a lot easier and faster.

Mike Wiles

Being a Linux user, you get your selection of DB client tools like DB Visualizer with cutting edge UI / UX experiences fresh from ’90s built on Java. With Beekeeper Studio, Linux is a first class citizen with a native app that is beautiful, lightweight, full featured and fast. Best DB tool on Linux by a country mile.

Stephane Rossan

I’m new to database management. Having a tool like BeeKeeper Studio is very helpful to me, as I’m learning on how to use this tool. I used other software in the past. They were not as flexible as this one, and sometimes, there was no mac version.
I found the tool very well designed and easy to use.

dfurmans Scala Dev

Migrated from dbeaver. Mainly due to simple and intuitive GUI interface. Such a simple and powerfull tool.

Lucien COO Cloudsecure

Beautiful, fast, clean, logical.

Alex M

Fabulous tool, the most practical IDE I’ve found to date for Postgres and MySql db admin - it just works, no fuss :-)

Jeff Richter VP Information Technology, Claridge Products

Our efficiency for managing our SQL code is a 2-3x improvement using Beekeeper compared to before.

I’m not sure I know what we would be doing without Beekeeper, probably coming up with file based sharing system with checkout permissions on a SharePoint which would be amazingly painful.

Jay Simons Jay Simons Owner, Designly.biz

Unlike pgAdmin, Beekeeper is remarkably simple to use yet not lacking in features–and the price is right! The database backup feature is particularly useful. Just great software.

Vicky

Switched from DBeaver - absolutely in love with Beekeeper Studio’s zen-like interface! The multi-tab workflow and quick table editing save me hours weekly. It’s the SQL client that sparks joy while managing databases 🐝✨

Justin Justin ST Courier Pvt ltd

this is awesome and very useful to me 😎🔥🔥

Beekeeper Beekeeper Still a Newbie

I chose this program after years of using phpMyAdmin—it feels like stepping into a world of higher quality; here, I truly felt that the user is genuinely cared for. The concept itself, the implementation, the practical experience—I am sincerely grateful to Matthew for all of it.

Alex Badyan

Beekeeper studio is by far the best free tool I’ve used for db navigation. It handles querying and DDL exploration with ease, and the whole experience is just a breeze.
